Our varsity baseball team made school history this past weekend by virtue of their 7-4 quarterfinal win over Parkway Central, becoming the 1st team in school history to ever advance to a team Final Four.
FZE got off to a blazing start in the bottom of the 1st, scoring 6 runs and chasing the Colts starting pitcher before an out was recorded. The big hit of the inning came from senior shortstop Luke Aubuchon, who cleared the bases with a ringing double to the right center field gap. Designated hitter Evan Newcorn also chipped in with a run scoring single.
Parkway Central got a couple of runs back in the top of the 3rd, prior to Lion catcher Jackson Penn hitting a solo shot to lead off the bottom of the 3rd, giving the Lions a 7-2 lead, which they took into the 7th inning. The Colts threatened in the 7th, getting 2 runs and putting a couple more runners on, prior to FZE closer Luke Aubuchon getting the final 2 outs to end the game.
FZE got solid starting pitching from junior Lukas McGill, and great relief from junior Michael Gibson; prior to Aubuchon closing it out in the 7th.
FZE now advances to the Class 5 State semifinals on Friday, June 3, where they will play Platte County. Game time is 7 pm at US Ballpark in Ozark, MO.
