Announcements and Important Events
Our fall sports teams are off and running with regards to their fall schedules, with several of our teams having strong early season results. Leading the way to this point are our varsity softball, varsity soccer, and varsity boys swim teams.
Our Varsity Softball team is off to a strong 2-0 start with shut out victories over GAC Central opponents Zumwalt North and Liberty. The ladies defeated the Panthers of Zumwalt North on Tuesday by the score of 5-0. Junior Chloe Smallfield pitched a 1 hit shutout with 7 strikeouts on the day. Katie Bergland and Rebecca Kennon both had 2 hits for the Lions in the win. The ladies followed that up on Wednesday with another shutout victory, this time 13-0 over the Liberty Eagles. Chloe Smallfield once again had the shutout, scattering 5 hits over 6 innings of work. Smallfield also had a big day at the plate, going 3-3 with an RBI. Katie Bergland also had 3 hits on the day, and Rebecca Kennon had 2. The Lions have another key GAC game today (Fri, Sept. 6) at Timberland.
Our Varsity Boys Soccer team has gotten off to a strong 2-0 start as well, as they are participating in the Fort Zumwalt Classic Tournament. The boys got things rolling on Tuesday, as they defeated Lutheran-SC 5-0. Michael Brophy lead the Lion attack with 2 goals and 2 assists, while Charlie Stergos had the shutout in goal. The Lions then followed that up on Thursday with an exciting 1-0 shutout win over Parkway North, as Andrew Kneale scored with 2 minutes left to ultimately give the Lions the win. Charlie Stergos once again played great in goal for the shutout. The boys will finish tourney play with an 11 am game on Sat, Sept. 7 against the FZ West Jaguars.
Finally, our Boys Swim & Dive team had a very impressive start to their season on Wednesday by defeating the Zumwalt North Panthers by the score of 122 - 60. In the meet, Senior Brendan Hutchison qualified for State in the 50 freestyle, while freshman Nick Ostrander broke the school record in the backstroke. This should be an exciting season for our Boys Swim team and they return to action on Monday, with a home dual meet against Holt.
